Club N Gauge - update August 2026:

Since the sale of the club's long standing N gauge layout Warren Park, it was felt there was still a need for British N gauge to be represented within the club.

There being sufficient interest in N gauge in the club, a start has been made on a new layout.

This has mainly been driven by Jason Bailey as construction contractor, and Peter Richards gathering ideas on how to proceed.

It is hoped in the Autumn of 2026 to bring the layout out of the shadows and get a team running to move ideas forward.

The layout is approximately 16ft x 3ft which in N gauge is more than plenty.

This new layout has been sitting under the radar for a while but does exist - at least in board form!

Indeed, some of the racking in the storeroom has been adapted for the new layout, which it is currently using.

The name of the layout is to be determined - but an idea has been mentioned....

The ethos of the new layout is as follows:

Easy to put up/set down:

A club layout needs to be just that, so the aim is that this layout can be up and running in <30mins.

It only has 4 identical boards.

A club layout should be for club nights, not just shows.

Not overcomplicated:

The layout will be traditional DC control - and code 80 track.

This makes it universal for all stock.

Considerate track plan:

Too many layouts are awash with track.

We aim to have a double track mainline, station, some sidings and perhaps a depot.

Nothing too fancy though, the emphasis is running trains round and round - which is a where N gauge excels.

Buildings and scenery will be a big part of this layout - this will help engage club members in lots of projects.
